Brian Schriner

Brian Schriner has served as Dean of Florida International University’s College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) since 2010. Under his leadership, CARTA has emerged as one of the nation’s leading public colleges for creativity, innovation, and experiential learning, earning repeated national and international recognition while expanding its impact across communication, journalism, architecture, design, music, theatre, and the visual arts.

 

Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, university leadership, and community partners, Dean Schriner has strengthened the college’s academic reputation, expanded nationally recognized degree programs, secured nearly $50 million in philanthropic support, and generated more than $50 million in auxiliary revenue to advance the college’s mission. His leadership has transformed CARTA’s academic programs, faculty, facilities, and industry partnerships while creating exceptional experiential learning opportunities for more than 4,000 students.

 

Among his academic initiatives, Dean Schriner led the establishment of Florida’s first Doctor of Design (D.Des.), the college’s first doctoral program, while expanding innovative undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving creative, media, design, and technology industries.

 

Dean Schriner is an educator, author, and advocate for public higher education. He believes the arts, design, communication, journalism, and media are essential to fostering creativity, innovation, civic engagement, and economic opportunity.
